In the upcoming time, your Angels are encouraging you to really pay attention to your spending habits and to see what you choose to spend your money on as being an expression of what you truly value in life. See your spending habits as being your financial compass in life, and the things you truly want as the North Star guiding this financial compass.
Just like a compass, you will need to regularly consult the compass again to see if the daily winds of temptation are not drifting your ship of course, leading you far away from the shining destination you originally had set your sights on. Effectively tracking your spending isn't just about budgeting; it's about aligning your daily transactions or monthly spending with your most important goals.
Many people track their expenses simply out of necessity, creating a dry list of debits. This mechanical approach misses the point. When your spending is untracked or tracked without context, a significant disconnect emerges between your stated priorities and your actual expenditures. For example, you may want to save for a down payment on a house, but you may spend money on expensive take-away meals and frequent weekend activities instead.
Without actively tracking your spending habits, it will be easy for small, daily costs - just like minor wind at sea - to start pushing your financial ship off its charted course. A small, untracked indulgence that feels like a gentle current, may over a year, amount to a huge drift which will ultimately be sabottaging the goal you have set your North Star on.
So view your spending data not just as a logbook of shame, but as you consciously consulting your compass for neccessary feedback to readjust your sails. This objective data will show you where your ship is actually sailing towards, which will allow you to make course adjustments that truly reflect the priorities you have set for yourself.
So go and identity the 'current currents' in your bookkeeping. Where are the strong currents located when it comes to your money? Do you spend a lot on housing, food, entertainment, clothes,...?
Then start to define your top financial priorities for this year which will be your immovable North Star for the year ahead. Now look at the data the compass is giving you and point it to your North Star - and deliberately adjust the steering wheel to your budget.
If a trip you want to take is your guiding light, then you may need to cut the ropes on unnecessary weight that you are carrying on your ship in order for you to reach your intended destination. So make tracking your spending habits an intentional, recurring part of your routine, just like you would check the compass if you are still on course every now and then.
This way you can make sure you immediately readjust your sails and you can guide your ship (with every expense and every financial move) so that it brings you closer to the future you are envisioning for yourself!
Much love, your Angels
